I love getting away with my husband and reigniting the spark, however, I NEED my girlfriend getaways too. Sometimes when we get married or in a relationship we forget about our girlfriends and those important relationships. I’m VERY lucky that my girlfriends value that relationship as much as I do and we plan at least one weekend away a year. Let me explain why…..
My girlfriends and I like to scrapbook. It’s our “thing”. We rent a house, bring all kinds of chick flicks, food that we probably shouldn’t eat, and of course wine and adult beverages. It’s a girls sleep over that started out as a two night thing and has grown to a four night sleepover. What makes this so special is that it is our time. Yes, we scrapbook, however this is when we bond. We don’t have to be moms, wives, or even very responsible. We get to be each other’s friends for a few days. We can stay in our PJ’s if we want all day, take a shower at noon, or do whatever we want. And let’s face it, when you are a mom and you are responsible for just about everything else and you can do what you want on your schedule it’s just heavenly!!
As we get older we have so many responsibilities, bills to pay, kids activities to plan, house chores to do and so on. I hate to admit that as a woman, mother, wife, I don’t always take the time to carve time out for me. As women, we are by nature caregivers to everyone, except sadly to ourselves. We need to have some time to recharge our batteries. And although our significant other is awesome and can be your best friend, there is nothing like your girlfriends to laugh with, share your stories with and just be there for you. Our group always jokes that we are the next set of Golden Girls and to be honest, I’m honored to be one of them! To have that kind of bond with other women is awesome. You know that they have your back no matters what. And then you come home refreshed and and ready to take on your everyday world. So if you are traveling across the state or across the world, a girls weekend is good for the soul.
Grab your girlfriends, a bottle of wine, and to quote a famous song, “Raise your glass!”.
